The Philippines launched its Digital Nomad Visa in 2026, opening a 12-month renewable stay to remote workers. Widespread English, a very low cost of living, and beach hubs like Cebu and Siargao make it an emerging Southeast Asian nomad base.
Thailand
The Destination Thailand Visa (DTV) — 180 days entry, 5-year validity — changed the calculus for nomads. Secondary cities like Chiang Rai and Pai have far weaker SERPs than Chiang Mai.

Italy
Italy introduced a Digital Nomad Visa in 2024, targeting remote workers earning €28,000+/year. Rome, Milan, and Bologna offer a mix of culture, food, and growing co-working scenes at costs well below northern European capitals.
Malta
Malta is an English-speaking EU island with a dedicated Nomad Residence Permit for non-EU remote workers. Mediterranean climate, good internet, and easy access to Europe make it a top-five 2026 nomad destination.
Portugal
Portugal is one of Europe's top digital nomad destinations — affordable by Western European standards, with excellent internet, a booming expat community in Lisbon and Porto, and a dedicated Digital Nomad Visa (D8) and the D7 Passive Income Visa.
Slovenia
Slovenia introduced a digital nomad visa in late 2025 for non-EU remote workers, allowing stays up to one year. A safe, green Central European country bordering Italy, Austria, and Croatia, it pairs Alpine and Adriatic living with strong infrastructure.
Spain
Spain launched its Digital Nomad Visa in 2023 for remote workers earning from foreign sources. Barcelona, Madrid, Valencia, and Málaga are popular nomad hubs with excellent infrastructure and Mediterranean climate.
East Asia
Japan
Japan launched its Digital Nomad Visa in March 2024, requiring ¥10M (~$67,000) annual income. Non-Japan-sourced income is tax-exempt for the first year. Ultra-fast internet, unmatched urban infrastructure, and bases in Tokyo, Osaka, and Kyoto draw a fast-growing remote-work community.
South Korea
South Korea's Workcation Visa (D-10-7), launched in 2023, allows remote workers to stay for up to 1 year. Seoul has some of the world's fastest internet speeds (averaging 300+ Mbps), a vibrant coworking scene, and Jeju Island offers a separate freelancer-friendly programme.
